Chess clubs and circles in and around Tokyo 19
About this list
A Tokyo chess club rarely owns a room. Most book a ward or city community hall once or twice a month and post the date on a blog, on X or on Meetup, so the day can move from one month to the next. The exception is Chess Center UENO in Kita-Ueno, a space open on Thursday evenings and on weekend afternoons for a ticket bought in advance. Kōenji Chess Club meets on the first and third Wednesday at The Den, a burger bar, in English and Japanese.
Further out, Machida Chess Club meets at the Chuo Kominkan, Chofu Chess Club at Chofu Civic Plaza Acros, Yokohama Chess Club at the YWCA in Naka ward, and Chiba Chess Club in Kashiwa. University circles play at the Ōokayama, Komaba and Hiyoshi campuses. Several newer clubs are known only from the federation's registration notices, with a ward but no schedule, and their cards say they are unconfirmed.
