Chess clubs in the Tokyo area that welcome beginners 8

About this list

On each of these clubs a page says that people who are new to chess are welcome. Kōenji Chess Club lets players come and go during its Wednesday evenings at The Den. 8×8 Chess Club meets once a month, usually on a Sunday afternoon in a Minato community hall, with a sign-up form and the first visit free. Yokohama Chess Club opens each Saturday meeting with a short beginners' lecture, and Kawasaki Chess Club's monthly meetings in Tsurumi allow free play and study.

Machida Chess Club and Chofu Chess Club also write that they welcome beginners, Chōfu even players who do not yet know the rules, and the university circles at Keio's Hiyoshi campus and at the University of Tokyo in Komaba invite newcomers as well as experienced players. A club that is not on this page may still be glad to see a novice; its pages simply do not say so.
