About this list
Chess teaching in Tokyo is mostly aimed at children, and several of the schools also teach shogi or other subjects. Tokyo Bilingual Chess School gives weekly group lessons in Ōsaki and Minami-Azabu, from kindergarten-age beginners to advanced courses. Shogi Chess Frontier in Okusawa, Setagaya, teaches chess and shogi to children on Tuesdays and has an evening chess class for adults; since April 2026 it also runs the chess classes of Dream AcademiA in Higashi-Azabu.
Kspace in Shirokanedai keeps an after-school chess club for children aged four to seven, and Yomiuri Culture in the atre building at Ebisu station runs a six-lesson introductory course on Monday mornings. Outside Tokyo, Yokohama Chess Club holds monthly children's classes and Chiba Chess Club teaches beginners in Kashiwa and Matsudo. Monthly fees, where printed, are on each card.
