Board-game cafés in Tokyo that keep a chess set 6

About this list

Tokyo has no chess café in the European sense. These are board-game cafés: places that keep a shelf of several hundred games for their guests, chess among them, as their game lists on a board-game directory show. Only one of them has a chess evening, so at the others a visitor should come with someone to play rather than expect to find opponents waiting.

Ajitobell is in Ebisu, Ueno Board Game Cafe canvas near Ueno station, AKIBOU BOARDGAME CAFE in Ikebukuro, Ariake-tei in Sugamo and Brett in Koganei; these five are marked unconfirmed, because no page shows chess actually being played there recently. ENGLISH ONLY CAFE in Kanda-Ogawamachi is the exception: a free chess and shogi party meets there every Tuesday from seven to nine in the evening, with one drink to order.
